Of course, the sheep do not wear real glasses and the cows are not painted by us, but the similarity makes you doubt. The dark spots around the eyes, the glasses are the trademark of the Villnösser Brillenschafe and the spots of the Pustertaler Sprinzen, which look painted, are the trademark of them. These peculiarities have something else in common: both breeds are threatened with extinction, but we at the Sonnwies make a considerable contribution to the preservation of the animals.

Our farm offers with over 30 animals a pure paradise for children. From ponies, Icelandic horses, cows, chickens, goats to our cute rabbits, everything is there and what could be better than to bring children's eyes to shine in our animal eldorado. Of course, all our animals can be lovingly stroked, fed and loved. The absolute highlight par excellence are our indispensable Pustertaler Sprinzen and Villnösser Brillenschafe, which are unfortunately both threatened by common extinction - all the more we appreciate their essential life value and are therefore even more committed to their preservation.

Pustertal Sprinzen

The Pustertaler Sprinzen are a livestock breed of domestic cattle. The breed was bred in the Pustertal Valley through crossbreeding to become a breed of its own. It is interesting to note that the name derives from the coat color distribution - preferably white color with black areas. If the color patches are large, they are called pinto, if they are smaller, they are called sprints. Accordingly, they are considered the beauty queen among cattle. Unique and unmistakable are also their extremely good milk yield and their extremely popular meat quality. This is why our distinctive Sprinzen enjoy such a high reputation. The Pustertaler Sprinzen have been threatened with extinction since the 1960s, which is why we consider it all the more important to make a vital contribution to the preservation of biodiversity with our breeding, so that this breed of cattle does not become extinct and is preserved as a cultural asset for us all. There are only about 600 Sprinzen left in the entire Alpine region - two of them live in Sonnwies! So let's celebrate our extraordinary Pustertal Sprinzen together and make their indispensable value even more recognizable - for us all a heart's desire!

Villnöss spectacled sheep

Our spectacled sheep is one of the oldest sheep breeds in Europe. It is a cross between the Bergamo sheep and the Paduan silk sheep. It is known for its robustness, provides excellent wool and is also known for its high quality lamb meat. In the whole of South Tyrol they number around 1700 - three of them in Sonnwies. Its name-giving characteristic is the marking around the eyes, the so-called black glasses, and the black and white ears. Since this species is also threatened with extinction, we consider it extremely important to fight for the survival of our spectacled sheep, to value their life even more and we are looking forward to introducing you to our extremely rare breed of sheep. Have fun!
