Agriculture

We know about our roots

In the Sonnwies, our passion for agriculture is just as great as our enthusiasm for hospitality. Growing up on our farm, we Hintereggers are strongly connected to nature and the rural values of South Tyrol. Several hundred years ago, however, the Sonnwies was not yet a hotel, but a normal mountain farm. Today, the Sonnwies is a unique combination of luxury family hotel and mountain farm. Our farmhouse is located on the Sonnwies grounds and is many children's favorite place at the resort. Here everything revolves around the world of animals and farming traditions. Animals yto pet, healthy mountain air, forest and meadows, hay barn, manufactory, excursions to our alpine pastures, to name just a few highlights. For children, our farm with over 30 animals living in different stables (indoor and outdoor) is a pure paradise. Families can experience the natural world heritage of the Dolomites and an idyll that has long since disappeared in many places. For families who love privacy, our Farm Chalets are just the right thing.

Animals on the farm

Animals to pet, healthy mountain air, hay in the barn, excursions to our alpine pastures - for children, our farm with over 30 animals is pure paradise. Here, children and parents get to know farm life up close and personal and are allowed to help themselves. We want to give the children access to various farm animals. The preservation of rare animals, which are threatened with extinction, is a matter close to our hearts. The children are allowed to interact with the animals, but also learn to respect them.

Farm & Garden as supplier

The Sonnwies Farm is surrounded by extensive mountain meadows, flower beds and large gardens. The in-house Culinary Garden offers a distinctive variety, with various forgotten vegetable varieties, so-called rarities. During weekly guided tours with gardener Monika, children can immerse themselves in the wonderful world of plants and help out. Together they water, harvest and marvel at small insects. The entire garden is organic: pesticide-free, healthy, and sustainable. The freshly harvested products are processed in the manufactory and the kitchen into enjoyable products. In this way, families can experience cycles on our farm up close.

Manufactory

The manufactory in the Sonnwies is a highlight for young and old! It is located on the grounds of Ferdi's farm and overwhelms not only with the countless activities offered there, but also with its extremely sustainable construction, such as the stock concrete walls or the old wooden ceilings. The floor is still the original wooden floor from the farm from the 18th century. In the manufactory, various activities such as making butter or tying wreaths are offered as part of the children's programme. In this way, you and your little ones can experience the rural alpine tradition and learn about the careful use of sustainable materials and nature.

Eco Facts

Growing up on our own mountain farm, the Hinteregger host family is strongly connected with the local nature and with the rural values of South Tyrol. We live this connection as a host family and have been making it tangible for our guests for more than 20 years. That is why sustainability is not just a trend for us, but a matter of course. Over the past decades, Hotel Sonnwies has developed from a former farm into a paradise and retreat for discerning families. As farmers, we know how important it is to live in harmony with nature, the animals, the seasons, and so on.
